Bell Gardens : Graves Named as Mayor

Councilman Marvin Graves began his one-year term as mayor Monday night after being elected by the City Council two weeks ago.
The ceremonial position is rotated among the five council members, who are elected to four-year terms.
Graves, 69, a retired business owner and former planning commissioner, was elected to the council in 1978.
He was preceded by Councilman Roger McComas, who was elected to the council in 1968 and began his second term as mayor in 1984.
Councilman Ronald Bird, elected to the council in 1985 and its newest member, was elected mayor pro tem.
Graves’ council term will expire in 1987 and Bird’s will expire in 1989.
