Clogging has choked off the lava tube system that sent molten flows down the slopes of Kilauea Volcano and destroyed 11 homes in its march to the sea, scientists reported. Scientist-in-charge Reggie Okamura of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said that because of the blockages, a new flow would probably not use the same tubes. That may be good news for residents because any new flow would have to form its own channel through the forest or over the hardened remains of old flows, Okamura said.
