San Diego High School Basketball : Bishop’s Doesn’t Slow Down Clairemont, 48-42
SAN DIEGO — Clairemont High School survived the slow-down tactics of The Bishop’s School for a 48-42 victory Thursday at La Jolla.
Clairemont (3-1) outscored Bishop’s (3-2), 12-6, in the third quarter after trailing, 26-25, at halftime.
Clairemont outrebounded Bishop’s, 18-8, in the second half.
Mike Giordano scored 13 points to lead Clairemont, which won just one game last year. Ray McDavid added 11 points and a team-high 8 rebounds.
El Camino 71, Southern California Christian 31--El Camino took a 20-6 first-quarter lead and routed Southern California Christian, a 1-A school from Anaheim, in a first-round game of the Notre Dame Tournament in Riverside. Guard Edmond Johnson had 24 points and 12 assists to lead El Camino (2-0), which plays Notre Dame in a semifinal game tonight. Lee Cobb added 18 points and 12 rebounds for El Camino.
GIRLS
Point Loma 72, Crawford 41--The Pointers (5-0) fell behind, 12-6, after the first quarter but then scored 66 points in the next three periods to win in the Point Loma Tournament. The Pointers’ Terri Mann sat out the first quarter with a sore back but came off the bench to score 18 points. Lisa Carrillo led Point Loma with 25 points.
Crawford is 3-1.
Mount Miguel 40, El Camino 20--Marla Swanson score 13 points and Charmelle Green added 9 to lead Mount Miguel in a Point Loma Tournament game. Nelle Malalulu and Mona Cross scored six points each to pace El Camino.
