Pierce Brosnan didn’t get the role of James Bond because NBC wanted him back as “Remington Steele,†but they’ve come up with something else for him. Brosnan will star in an eight-hour adaptation of James Clavell’s “Novel House.†It will be written and produced by Eric Bercovici, who served as writer-producer on Clavell’s “Shogun.†The miniseries will be broadcast during the 1987-88 season.
Telly Savalas and Ernest Borgnine, two of the original “Dirty Dozen†from 1967, will be reteamed in “The Dirty Dozen III,†a new TV movie that NBC will broadcast later this season. Also in the cast are Vince Edwards, Bo Svenson, Vince Van Patten, James Van Patten and Randall (Tex) Cobb.
George C. Scott and Don Ameche are cast as friends whose lives take an upward turn when they find a suitcase containing more than $3 million in “Pals.†There’s a twist to the CBS movie, of course--they don’t know there’s a mobster who wants the money back. Sylvia Sidney co-stars as Scott’s mother.
KCET Channel 28 has taped a two-hour special paying tribute to composer Henry Mancini, which will be broadcast on the Public Broadcasting Service next spring. “Mancini and Friends†will feature appearances by Julie Andrews, Dudley Moore, Quincy Jones, Andy Williams and James Galway, among others.
