James (Bonecrusher) Smith will replace Tony Tubbs in Friday night’s fight against Tim Witherspoon, the World Boxing Assn. heavyweight champion, at New York. Tubbs pulled out of the fight, which is part of the HBO heavyweight title unification tournament, because of a shoulder injury.
