Re Placentia Unified Name Change:
Your article (Nov. 10) was perfect example of why Placentia Unified School District needs a name change.
The bulk of the article centers on the possible merger of Yorba Linda School District with Placentia Unified School District. This possible future merger has nothing to do with the need for the name change.
Yorba Linda School District is a very small district within Yorba Linda. The majority of Yorba Linda students live within and attend schools within Placentia Unified. The district has simply outgrown its present name.
Because the City of Yorba Linda does have a small elementary school area called “Yorba Linda School District,” many residents within the city of Yorba Linda believe that their children go to schools with that district--when actually, 73% of the Yorba Linda students are within Placentia Unified. Confusing? You bet!
That is why the name change has been proposed: Placentia-Linda Unified School District.
