Mitsubishi’s Unit in U.S. Consolidating Operation
Mitsubishi Electric Sales America Inc. said it will move the marketing and distribution functions of its Luna Telecom subsidiary to Cypress as part of a consolidation of its operations.
About eight jobs will be lost at the company’s Santa Clara offices as a result of the consolidation, the company said.
Mitsubishi Electric is the Cypress-based unit of the giant Japanese corporation.
Mitsubishi Electric employs about 2,000 workers throughout the United States. The company assembles television sets, videocassette recorders and audio systems at plants in Santa Ana and Brazelton, Ga. The headquarters and warehouse operations are in Cypress.
Luna introduced a video telephone earlier this year that sends and receives black-and-white pictures over telephone lines.
