MALIBU SUNRISE
In response to Rosie Grant’s letter (Calendar Letters, Nov. 30), first, let me say that I’m glad that she enjoyed Blake Edwards’ picture “That’s Life.â€
Second, to clarify Julie Andrews’ early morning walk past an apparent setting sun, I must remind you that the Santa Monica Bay is crescent-shaped. The coast line runs north-south in Redondo but curves around to run east-west in Malibu.
Therefore, when you stand on the beach near Point Dume, the sun will rise over the water to your left and set over the point to your right.
Since the crew had to go through three successive 4 a.m. calls to get that shot, I couldn’t stand the idea that she thought it was an error.
