Dave Maggard, the University of California’s athletic director, expects to name a new football coach after meeting this weekend with the school’s top administrators.

Five men are known to be under consideration to succeed the fired Joe Kapp, whose Bears were 2-9 this season: UC Davis Coach Jim Sochor, former USFL head coaches Steve Spurrier and Charlie Sumner, Ram assistant Bruce Snyder and former Maryland Coach Bobby Ross.
