Fullerton : 25-Year Police Veteran Named as Interim Chief
A 25-year veteran of the Police Department will serve as the interim chief until a replacement is named for outgoing Chief Martin Hairabedian, the city announced Friday.
Capt. Philip Goehring, 49, will replace Hairabedian, who was recently appointed to a North Orange County Municipal Court judgeship by Gov. George Deukmejian.
Goehring, a Missouri native, has a law degree from Western State University College of Law and has been a member of the California Bar Assn. since 1976, said city spokeswoman Sylvia Palmer.
Goehring joined the Fullerton Police Department a few months after his discharge from the Navy.
In 1970, he was promoted to sergeant and assigned the task of organizing the first planning and research bureau, which included assisting with the design and development of a $1.4-million annex to the department. In 1978, Goehring was promoted to lieutenant and in 1980 to captain.
Goehring also teaches at the Police Reserves Academy at Fullerton College and is a member of the Orange County Administrative Commanders Assn. He lives in the city of Orange with his wife, Dottie, and has one son, Robert, 22.
