A plan for a new $120-million stadium for the Chicago White Sox was announced by Illinois Gov. James R. Thompson, raising hopes that the American League team will not leave the city.
The plan worked out by state, city and White Sox officials, which requires legislative approval, calls for creation of a seven-member stadium authority to build and operate a new stadium near the team’s 76-year-old Comiskey Park on Chicago’s South Side. The old stadium would be demolished.
