Rancho P.V. : Hughes Becomes Mayor

The City Council this week chose Councilman Mel Hughes as mayor and Councilman Robert Ryan as mayor pro tem.
Hughes, 46, succeeds Douglas Hinchliffe, who served as mayor for one year. An engineer, Hughes has been a resident of the Palos Verdes Peninsula since 1964.
Ryan, 56, is also an engineer and has been a resident since 1970. He has served on the council since the city’s incorporation in 1973 and has served both as mayor and mayor pro tem.
