Laguna Beach : Hearing Slated on Plan to Widen Canyon Road
- Share via
The California Coastal Commission will hold a public hearing on a proposed widening and realignment of Laguna Canyon Road on Dec. 10 in Los Angeles, commission officials announced.
The proposed project would widen Laguna Canyon Road to four lanes, from El Toro Road to Canyon Acres Drive, realigning the road through the so-called “Big Bend” area and leaving the existing stretch of highway as a frontage road, according to the commission staff.
The project would require removal of more than 2 million cubic yards of material. It would eliminate 54 to 60 acres of existing habitat along the roadway, and in the process alter flood drainage patterns and change the character of Laguna Canyon, according to the commission.
The hearing will begin at 9 a.m. at the Holiday Inn at 9901 La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles. For more information, call the commission headquarters in San Francisco at (415) 543-8555.
