Community College Roundup : Jefferson Scores 29 to Lead Rancho Santiago Victory
The Rancho Santiago College men’s basketball team defeated College of the Desert, 110-99, Saturday to win the Tip-Off tournament championship at Rancho Santiago.
Rancho Santiago (5-2) was led by sophomore guards Chris Jefferson (29 points), Chris Jackson (21) and sophomore forward Howard Cole (18).
College of the Desert (2-3) was led by Lamont McIntosh (29 points, 20 rebounds) and Steve Terrier (21 points, 6 rebounds).
In nonconference play:
Orange Coast 56, San Diego Mesa 50--Mike Kelly had 27 points to lead the Pirates (7-0) at San Diego Mesa.
Long Beach 72, Cypress 63--Despite 23 points and 6 assists from Jim Sammon, a freshman from El Dorado High School, the Chargers (2-4) lost to the Vikings (4-0) at Long Beach. Henry Johnson led Long Beach with 19 points. Andy Olivares added 18 points and 6 rebounds for Cypress.
