San Diego
A man driving a stolen motor home leaped to his death from a freeway ramp onto another freeway after being pursued by Chula Vista police early Saturday, a police spokeswoman said.
Macario Barajas-Romero, estimated to be between 25 and 30 with an unknown address, was pronounced dead by Life Flight personnel at the scene, Interstate 15 under the northbound Interstate 5 ramp in San Diego.
About 1:45 a.m., a motor home was reported stolen in the 100 block of Guava Street in Chula Vista. About five minutes later, two police units observed the motor home northbound on I-5 near E Street and gave chase, the spokeswoman said.
The driver of the motor home increased his speed until he reached the ramp onto Interstate 15, where he came to a stop and fled on foot, the spokeswoman said. He leaped over a guardrail, falling 80 to 100 feet to his death.
