SOUND-TRACK SURVIVOR
“WHEN SECONDS COUNT.†Survivor. Scotti Brothers. The Chicago band’s fifth LP sounds like a collection of sound-track singles in search of a movie. After all, Survivor scored its biggest triumph with the “Rocky III†theme song “Eye of the Tiger.†And with the increasing trend toward cross-marketing commercial films and commercial pop, it’s easy to picture portions of the album surfacing in a high-concept flick. Particularly since new singer Jimi Jamison now makes Survivor virtually indistinguishable from Journey. Most of the material would work in romantic scenes: couple meets, couple falls in love, couple pledges devotion, couple has problems, couple laments the breakup. And if you had a film about a fiercely independent Young Turk, you could consider “Rebel Son.†If it seems odd to be assigning these songs to hypothetical movies, it beats considering them together. That just raises the question: Do we really need another Journey?
