SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — A Navy recreational van carrying Marines and sailors back to their base after a Thanksgiving outing overturned on an interstate highway today, killing four and injuring seven. One witness said he found open beer cans in the van.
The van, whose 12 passengers may also have included some civilians, skidded on rain-slick Interstate 26 as it was returning to the Charleston Naval Base from a wrestling match in Atlanta. Names of the dead--two women and two men--were withheld pending notification of their relatives.
