The Coast Guard intends to continue searching today for a boat or debris of a vessel that was reported to be engulfed in flames 19 miles off the San Diego County coastline late Tuesday.
A Coast Guard spokesman said that Wednesday’s search turned up some debris, but it was not clear whether it belonged to the burning vessel.
A Navy helicopter pilot reported seeing the burning ship shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Coast Guard. Four minutes later, a passenger aircraft from Lindbergh field reported seeing the same boat in flames.
No Mayday calls were reported and no boats have been reported missing, officials said.
