El Camino Installs New Sound Sytem
An advanced infrared sound system designed to aid the hearing-impaired has been installed at El Camino College’s Marsee Auditorium.
The system sends signals from microphones on stage to headsets worn by audience members.
Financed primarily by El Camino’s Foundation for Higher Education, Arts and Athletics, the $6,700 system initially will provide 12 headsets, but the college hopes to buy more later, an El Camino spokesman said.
Steven Fasteau, director of El Camino’s Disabled Students Program, said volunteers will distribute the sets at performances for a nominal fee to cover maintenance costs.
