Local News in Brief : Tenant Gets 17 Years in Killing Over Leaky Tub

A North Hollywood man was sentenced Thursday to 17 years to life in state prison for killing his apartment manager’s son during a dispute over repairs to a cracked bathtub.
San Fernando Superior Court Judge Ronald S. W. Lew imposed the sentence on Carl Wendall Garner, who was convicted Oct. 15 of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Michael Palmer, 41, of Hollywood.
Palmer was shot five times outside his mother’s Tiara Street apartment June 17, 1985, after he and Garner argued over a leaky bathtub in Garner’s apartment.
