NEW YORK — Rolland Smith, a former anchorman for CBS-owned WCBS-TV here, was named Thursday as actress Mariette Hartley’s co-host on the entertainment portion of the new three-hour morning show that CBS will premiere in January.
Smith had been at WCBS-TV for nearly 16 years. He left the station in August. He and Hartley will appear on the 7:30-9 a.m. portion of the new CBS morning show, while CBS News employees will anchor, staff and produce the program’s 6-7:30 a.m. “hard news” segment.
No anchors for the earlier 90-minute portion have been chosen yet. The news CBS morning effort will succeed the 23-year-old “CBS Morning News,” which is being cancelled at the end of the year because of persistent low rating.
