In another Indiana development, senior forward Daryl Thomas was dropped from the team by basketball Coach Bob Knight for failing to meet the coach’s personal academic standards. Thomas, a 6-foot 7-inch starter from Westchester, Ill., averaged 14.5 points and 4.8 rebounds a game last season.
Thomas was absent from Thursday night’s intrasquad game at Gary, Ind. Knight said the senior had been “dropped from the squad because he does not think it is important enough to maintain academic standards.”
Since Knight became coach at Indiana in 1972, 25 players have left the team for various reasons.
