The Bernardi Multipurpose Senior Center will honor Dr. Donald I. Goldstein Thursday with its first Professional Community Service Award. The luncheon is part of the Center’s efforts to raise $48,500 to counter budget cuts. Goldstein is an ophthalmologist in North Hollywood who has provided free eye screenings and lectures at senior citizens centers through the San Fernando Valley for three years. The event is by invitation only.

Sixteen persons were elected to the Board of Regents at California Lutheran University when the Convocation met last month. The Convocation is composed of 100 members representing the Lutheran Church in American (Pacific Southwest Synod) and the owners of the University. Newly elected members include Dr. Brian McConnell, Alfonso B. Perez, Amalie Roth Shannon, Mark Vanlandingham, Mary Ellen Stan, Tamara Hagen and Dr. Jack Ledbetter. Re-elected were Dr. Sarla Gnanamuthu, Stanley Olson, Philip F. Ordung, Jack Wise, Bernice Crawford, James G. Lincoln, Marvin Soiland, James G. Wenzel and Marvin B. Jaynes. Members serve three-year terms. The board meets at least four times a year.

Marina Beard of Thousand Oaks has been elected president of the Ventura County Industry Education Council. Beard has been employed by Oak Park Unified School District for 11 years, currently as community resources coordinator. Also elected were James Cowan, superintendent of Ventura County Schools, as secretary and Rosalie Gehres of Simi Valley as treasurer. The council promotes exchanges among business, industry and government to develop educational programs. Projects include the Ventura County Science Fair, youth motivation programs and a business week.
