Gannett denied that it bid for CBS Magazines.
Douglas H. McCorkindale, Gannett Co. vice chairman, said his company has not approached CBS Inc. about buying about the division, despite wide speculation to that effect. “Unless they put it on the market, we wouldn’t begin to consider it,” said McCorkindale, who directs Gannett acquisitions. CBS spokesmen have said the unit is not for sale, but analysts and industry officials have speculated that CBS would consider a generous bid.
