Re “Smog Season Best Ever for County, AQMD Says” (Oct. 25):
I gagged as I read the Air Quality Management District quote--”Orange and Riverside counties had the best air quality year in their history.” Talk about official doublespeak. Better to have headlined with the next sentence, “that the basin continues to fall short of federal standards for ozone and carbon monoxide and is not expected to meet them for decades.”
The issues in Orange County are uncontrolled development by the Irvine Co., leading to increasing traffic congestion and smog, with gridlocks at major freeway intersections and weekend freeway volumes approaching what were weekday volumes not long ago.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors is unwilling or unable to slow this overdevelopment. Please don’t insult our intelligence with similar headlines in the future.
