CROSS-COUNTRY LEAGUE FINALS : Hart Boys Win 4th Straight Title

Led by the 1-2 finish of Bobby Bans and Frank Flores, Hart High won its fourth straight Foothill League title at San Gabriel High on Thursday.

Hart, the No. 2-ranked team in the Southern Section 3-A Division, placed six runners in the top eight to score 20 points. Schurr finished second with 83, followed by Burroughs (84), Burbank (89), San Gabriel (97) and Alhambra (174).

The Hart teammates caught their opponents at the 1-mile mark and dueled stride for stride to the finish. Bans ran a 15:18 over the flat three-mile course while Flores duplicated his second-place finish of last year with a 15:22.

Don Patti (fourth in 15:36), freshman Stephen Lepken (sixth in 15:59) and Kevin Fenenbock (seventh in 16:01) rounded out the Hart scoring.

The top three teams advanced to the Southern Section preliminaries at Mt. San Antonio College on Nov. 8.

Agoura 22, Nordhoff 40, Calabasas 83, Santa Paula 93, Santa Clara (no score)--Freshman Bryan Dameworth and senior Matt Thomson led Agoura with a 1-2 finish in the third and final Frontier League meet at Paramount Ranch in Agoura.

Dameworth’s 15:31 effort over the tough, three-mile course was one second shy of his own course record. Thomson ran a 15:48 and teammate Peter Oviatt finished fourth in 16:31.

GIRLS

Hart 33, Schurr 49, San Gabriel 53, Burbank 77, Burroughs (no score), Alhambra (no score)--Anne Flores, sister of Frank, led Hart to its fourth consecutive Foothill League title at San Gabriel High.

Flores ran a 19:45 over the three-mile course and finished third.

Nordhoff 25, Agoura 53, Calabasas 69, Santa Clara 108, Santa Paula (no score)--Jennifer Sullivan led Agoura with a fourth-place effort at the third and final Frontier League meet at Paramount Ranch in Agoura.

Sullivan ran a 21:14 over three miles. Andrea Dellamonica of Calabasas was second in 21:03.
