Former pro basketball player Lonnie Shelton was briefly jailed in Kern County for allegedly “bowling over†three highway patrolmen after he was stopped on suspicion of speeding near Bakersfield.
After agreeing to be handcuffed, the 6-foot 8-inch Shelton allegedly threw a body block and “took down three officers in one fell swoop,†according to the police. Two more officers then arrived--making six officers on the scene--and Shelton finally was taken to jail. None of the patrolmen were injured.
Shelton, 31, was released on his own recognizance.
Shelton finished his National Basketball Assn. career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who did not offer to renew his contract for the current season.
