Channel Islands 41, Royal 6--A 35-point explosion by Channel Islands in the second quarter put away the Marmonte League game at Hueneme High in Oxnard.
The Channel Islands defense shut down Royal and contained quarterback Shaun Christensen throughout the game. Royal lost five of six fumbles, which set up three Raider touchdowns.
The most devastating fumble, on the last play of the first half, was returned 73 yards for a touchdown by Channel Islands linebacker John Sunia.
For Royal (1-6, 1-2 in league), Christensen completed 8 of 15 passes for 103 yards. Running back Ralph Blanks carried 16 times for 98 yards.
Channel Islands (5-1-1, 2-0-1 in league) had 309 rushing yards, almost half of which came in the second quarter.
