TEL AVIV — Israel will ask the International Civil Aviation Organization to condemn Syria, accused by Britain of involvement in an attempt to blow up an Israeli airliner, a Transport Ministry spokesman said Saturday.
One of the functions of the Montreal-based U.N. aviation agency, to which Syria belongs, is to promote air safety cooperation.
A Jordanian was convicted Friday of trying to plant a bomb aboard an El Al jet in London in April. Britain broke off diplomatic ties with Syria after the verdict.
Israeli officials praised Britain’s action as an important step against international terrorism.
