Hermosa Beach : Strand Panel Authorized
The City Council has voted to appoint an 11-member Strand Safety Committee to study and make recommendations for safe use of the beachfront strip by pedestrians, skaters, bicyclists and joggers.
The committee will be made up of two Strand residents, two business representatives, council members June Williams and Jim Rosenberger, a student, a senior citizen, a planning commissioner, a community resources commissioner and a city resident. The council has not appointed anyone yet.
The council also voted to make The Strand between 11th and 15th streets a bike-walk zone beginning May 1. The proposed ordinance must be adopted by the council at its next meeting to become law. In August, the council voted on a similar proposal that was to take effect in September, but the action was not handled properly and must be redone.
