A 67-year-old Studio City woman was killed Monday when she was struck by a car as she walked in a crosswalk in North Hollywood, Los Angeles police said.
Phylis Mirabel was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Sgt. Dennis Ruegsegger said.
Mirabel was crossing Whitsett Avenue at Valleyheart Drive when she was hit by a car driven by Leonid Kinskey, 83, of North Hollywood, Ruegsegger said.
Kinskey was not arrested, but the results of the investigation will be turned over to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office for possible prosecution on charges of vehicular manslaughter, police said.
“Apparently, he just didn’t see her,” Ruegsegger said. “But it would have been improper to throw him in jail” with younger criminal suspects, he said.
