The Administration’s argument that SDI has automatic merit simply because the Soviets oppose it is patently absurd. The Soviets are on record in opposition to Nazism, cancer and birth defects. Does that impart automatic merit to these horrific things?
It is interesting that of all the past presidents Ronald Reagan boldly claims lineage to, one completely ignored is the other highly popular Republican folk hero, Dwight David Eisenhower. After two complete terms in office, Eisenhower’s “Farewell Address” was a landmark warning of the danger posed by America’s “military industrial complex”--a plea to future presidents to say “no” to the Edward Tellers.
Have Eisenhower’s worst fears come to past?
