Community College Roundup : Top-Ranked Golden West Beats Mt. San Antonio
The Golden West College volleyball team, ranked No. 1 in the state, defeated Mt. San Antonio College, 15-11, 15-0, 13-15, 15-6, Wednesday in a South Coast Conference match at Mt. San Antonio.
The Rustlers (5-0) were led by two freshmen outside hitters. Susie Turner had 12 kills. Kathi Hayes had five kills and four aces.
Mt. San Antonio is 1-4.
In community college water polo:
Cypress 16, Ventura 12--Freshman Hans Snijdewind had five goals for the Chargers (2-15) in the nonconference match at Cypress, and teammates Steve Plumb and Doug Weller added three goals each. The match was tied, 8-8, at the half but the Chargers pulled away from the Pirates (3-18) in the fourth period. Cypress returns to Orange Empire Conference action at Rancho Santiago at 3 p.m. Friday.
Long Beach 19, Saddleback 10--The Vikings won the nonconference match at Saddleback. Three Gauchos scored three goals each--J.D. Dennis, Keith Shore and Eric Long.
