Southwestern Is On Track So Far

Southwestern, one of the preseason Mission Conference favorites, is on schedule thus far.
The Apaches are tied for first place with Riverside, which upset Saddleback, 21-16, Saturday. Southwestern’s victory ended the Gauchos’ 49-game home winning streak.
Southwestern plays Rancho Santiago this week at home. The Dons opened the season with two victories but lost to Riverside, 31-28, two weeks ago when a last-second 44-yard field-goal attempt went wide.
San Diego Mesa beat Rancho Santiago, 31-19, last week. Mesa quarterback Jeff Sturch was 23 for 37 for 309 yards and 2 touchdowns.
San Diego Mesa is in the unenviable position of playing Saddleback Saturday.
San Diego City and Citrus, the only two teams yet to win in conference, also play Saturday.
