Two sheriff’s deputies were injured and a burglary suspect was seriously wounded early today in a shoot-out outside a West Hollywood apartment house garage. A second suspect escaped despite a six-hour search by scores of law officers.
Deputies were called to the apartment at 3 a.m. on a “suspicious persons” report and encountered the suspects in the garage, a sheriff’s spokesman said. Deputy Lynette McKeown, hit several times in the chest by shots fired by one of the suspects, escaped serious injury because she was wearing a bulletproof vest. She returned fire and wounded the unnamed suspect as she fell. Her partner suffered a dislocated shoulder when he tried to drag her out of the line of fire, a spokesman said.
