Compton : Judge Hears Trustee’s Claim
A Compton school board member has blamed Supt. Ted D. Kimbrough for fostering emotional stress that now has her seeking lifetime medical benefits from the district. At a hearing on her claim for worker’s compensation, Compton Unified School District Trustee Bernice Woods complained of a variety of mental and physical ailments that have plagued her since Kimbrough was hired in 1981. Kimbrough and the school system deny causing any of Woods’ discomfort.
Worker’s Compensation Judge Maurice Carey on Monday heard a half-day of testimony from Woods, focusing on her long-strained association with Kimbrough, then adjourned the proceedings until Oct. 29. Kimbrough and several school board members are expected to testify then, said John Martin, an attorney defending the district.
Once the hearing is concluded, Carey will issue a ruling, which either side then may appeal.
