DETROIT — Computer-maker Burroughs Corp. today announced plans to cut its 120,000-member worldwide work force by 8% through a voluntary early-retirement offer and other measures.
Burroughs, which last month completed a takeover of fellow computer-maker Sperry Cos., said staff reductions will also be achieved through attrition, selective hiring freezes and layoffs. Industry leader International Business Machines recently announced a similar early-retirement plan meant to eliminate 12,000 people from its payroll by the end of 1987.
