Three Uganda Cabinet ministers, a former vice president and 14 others were charged with treason in a Kampala court. They could face the death penalty if they are convicted on the charges of plotting to overthrow the government of President Yoweri Museveni. The most prominent defendant is Paulo Muwanga, vice president under then-President Milton Obote, Museveni’s longtime foe. Also accused were Commerce Minister Evaristo Nyanzi, Energy Minister Andrew Kayiira and Environment Minister David Lwanga.
