Ocean View High School wasted several scoring opportunities, including one in which it had a first down at the St. Paul 19-yard line with 1:55 remaining, and lost to the Swordsmen, 17-12, Thursday night in a nonleague game at Westminster High.
Despite another fine performance by running back Kurt Szuba (two touchdowns, a 48-yard run on a fake punt and a 75-yard kickoff return), Ocean View failed to generate a consistent offense as quarterback Mike Spence had a hard time connecting with his receivers.
Spence completed only 7 of 22 attempts with 1 interception and missed badly on his last three attempts after a quick kick by St. Paul nearly backfired.
The Swordsmen (2-2) had the ball at their six yard line when quarterback Jeff Willis’ third-down punt traveled 13 yards. But the Seahawks (2-2) failed to score.
St. Paul took over again and ran out the clock.
Szuba scored on runs of 11 and 3 yards. Ocean View had one touchdown called back on a penalty and had two other drives stopped by turnovers.
