Shackled Women Leave Prison as Water Rises

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Convoys of shackled and handcuffed women inmates, escorted by armed guards, were evacuated today from Renz Correctional Center before rising floodwaters could cover the only road into the prison.
The 31 prisoners, all considered maximum-security risks, were taken to other state prisons.
