A pastoral letter opposing Proposition 64, the Lyndon LaRouche-sponsored AIDS initiative on the Nov. 4 ballot, was issued by the AIDS Interfaith Council, representing members of the clergy throughout Southern California. The letter said AIDS has “revealed the best and worst in our society,” citing on one hand the “human caring, empathy and courage” of many helping those with the disease and on the other hand “bigotry and people’s inhumanity to people” that have surfaced. The letter called on clergy members to speak out against “the hysteria . . . and the propagation of misinformation by political extremists.”
