The family of a woman who died six weeks after she was seriously injured in a Southern California Rapid Transit District bus wreck filed a wrongful-death claim against the district. Lois Welbon, 68, was injured when an RTD bus flipped over on the Hollywood Freeway. The official cause of death was arterial disease, but family members claim the accident--which resulted in amputation of a leg--was a contributing factor. The RTD, which has already paid the family $15,000 for hospital, nursing and funeral expenses, has 45 days to respond to the claim. After that, attorney Gloria Allred said, the family is prepared to file suit. “Don’t you think we deserve something?†said the victim’s husband, Charles Welbon, 76.
