East County
Eight East County women identified Carlos Antonie Hinojosa in court Tuesday as the man who raped or attempted to rape them in their homes.
The preliminary hearing of Hinojosa, 30, of El Cajon, is scheduled to continue this morning before San Diego Municipal Court Judge Raymond Edwards.
Hinojosa is suspected of a series of rapes in East County in the last few years. He was arrested Sept. 5 and is charged with seven counts of rape, two counts of assault with intent to commit rape, burglary of the 10 victims’ homes, assault with a deadly weapon, and forcible oral copulation.
An identification line-up involving another case also was scheduled for this morning, and more charges may be filed against Hinojosa, a diesel mechanic.
A ninth woman also identified Hinojosa, but was not the victim of an assault. She is the sister of an El Cajon woman who was raped May 30, 1985, and said she saw Hinojosa peeping through a window before the attack.
