Wilderness Experience Slightly Narrows Losses

Wilderness Experience, a Chatsworth maker of outdoor gear, posted a slightly narrowed loss of $230,000 on sales of $704,000 in its third quarter ended July 31. In the same period of 1985, the company lost $266,000 on sales of $1.7 million.

Per share, the loss was 3 cents the past quarter, versus 6 cents a year earlier. The figures were skewed by the issuance of new shares in late 1985, said Ted Weiland, the company’s chief financial officer.

Wilderness Experience said sales were off sharply partly because of increased competition. It also said sales in the year-ago quarter were increased by special promotions to reduce inventories.
