TOP RATING FOR ‘DALLAS’ OPENER
Pam Ewing’s awakening to discover that she’d only dreamed ex-husband Bobby had been killed 16 months earlier produced dream ratings for “Dallas,†the A.C. Nielsen Co. reported Monday.
The ninth-season premiere of the CBS soap opera last Friday was watched in more than 23.1 million homes and easily fended off the challenge of NBC’s “Miami Vice.†The police drama was seen in about 15.2 million homes.
National ratings showed that “Dallas†was the preferred choice of 43% of the homes watching TV between 9 and 10 p.m. Friday, while 28% opted for “Miami Vice.†About 15% chose the ABC comedies “Sledgehammer†and “Mr. Belvedere.â€
The explanation that all of last season on “Dallas†had been part of Pam’s dream was concocted by the producers to explain the return of Patrick Duffy as Bobby. He had left the show at the end of the 1984-85 season but then was persuaded to rejoin the cast.
