Kings Lose to Jets; Janecyk Is Hit in the Neck
WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Gilles Hamel scored with less than three minutes remaining Sunday night to lift the Winnipeg Jets to a 2-1 NHL exhibition victory over the Kings.
Hamel took a perfect pass from Tomas Steen to beat Darren Eliot high to the glove side.
Eliot replaced starting goaltender Bob Janecyk at 3:55 of the second period when Janecyk was struck in the neck by a Dale Hawerchuk slap shot.
The Jets are 3-2-1 in preseason play. The Kings fell to 2-3.
