The State : Gunman Shoots Himself
A gunman who held officers at bay for about 10 hours by firing at least 80 shots from a house in Redwood City finally turned the weapon on himself. San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Harold Cushnie said Clyde Shima, 37, died at Sequoia Hospital four hours after shooting himself in the head. Cushnie said neighbors telephoned the sheriff’s office when shots started coming from the house, located near a high school in an unincorporated area just outside Redwood City limits. A deputy who came to investigate called for reinforcements and a special weapons team surrounded the building. “At this time,” Cushnie said, “we don’t know what set him off.”
