A memorial service will be held Tuesday for Burgess Dempster, the founder and chairman of EECO Inc., one of the county’s first electronics companies.

Dempster, 78 and a 30-year resident of Santa Ana, died Friday after a short illness, said his son-in-law, John Stahr.

A native of Berkeley, Dempster was an engineering graduate of UC Berkeley. He founded Electronic Engineering Corp. in Los Angeles in 1951 and moved the company to Santa Ana in 1956.

Dempster is survived by his wife, Nell; daughters Patricia Dempster of Playa del Rey and Elizabeth Stahr of Corona del Mar; brothers Milan Dempster of Mill Valley and Orin Dempster of Orinda, and four grandchildren.

The memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Michael and All Angels Church in Corona del Mar. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to the College of Engineering at UC Berkeley.
