Countywide : AIDS Measure Opposed by B’nai B’rith Chapter

The county chapter of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith has become one of four California regional boards to go on record opposing Proposition 64, a Lyndon LaRouche-sponsored initiative calling for the quarantining of AIDS patients.

Dr. Stan Kegel, chairman of the ADL’s Orange County executive committee, said the proposition would lead to inhumane measures against those diagnosed with acquired immune deficiency syndrome or those who test positive for antibodies to the virus that causes the disease.

Kegel also said the measure would give undue political power to LaRouche, a right-wing extremist whose organization is fielding its own slate of candidates for public offices throughout the country.

Kegel said the ADL plans to campaign publicly for the defeat of Proposition 64, which will go before California voters on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.

“Lyndon LaRouche and his followers with their long history of anti-Semitic positions and paranoid ravings are surely not qualified to determine California’s public health policy,†Kegel said.
