Golf Roundup : Milwaukee Open Course a Soft Touch for Barr

Canadian Dave Barr, taking advantage of soft greens and an afternoon starting time, shot an eight-under-par 64 Friday for a 133 total and a two-stroke lead in the $400,000 Greater Milwaukee Open golf tournament.

David Frost and Morris Hatalsky, who coped with fog, rain and wind in the morning, were at 135 for two rounds on the Tuckaway Country Club course.

Frost, a second-year PGA Tour player from South Africa, shot a 66. Hatalsky, a former Milwaukee winner, had a 67.

Four players were at 136: Hubert Green, Chris Perry, Tom Byrum and Andy Bean.

Byrum was a co-leader Thursday with a 65. The other co-leader, Jay Delsing, faded to 138 with a second-round 73.

Bruce Crampton shot a three-under-par 69, and fellow Australian Peter Thomson had a 72 to share the lead after two rounds of the $200,000 World Seniors Invitational tournament at Charlotte, N.C.

Crampton and Thomson, at 137, held a four-shot edge over tour money leader Chi Chi Rodriquez, who had a 71.

Jane Geddes and Ayako Okamoto, two of only 16 women to break par, each shot a three-under-par 69 to tie for the lead in the first round of the $275,000 Konica San Jose tournament.

Defending champion Val Skinner, Linda Hunt, Mitzi Edge and Shirley Furlong were one stroke behind.

Ron Stelten shot a three-under-par 69 to share the second-round lead at 140 with South African Jeff Hawkes and Northern Ireland’s Ronan Rafferty in the $195,000 Lawrence Batley Tournament Players’ championship at Sutton Coldfield, England.
